OUR HISTORY

Magellan has over 80 years of collective knowledge and experience in the aerospace industry. The organization officially adopted the name “Magellan Aerospace Corporation” in 1996; deriving it from the intrepid explorer Ferdinand Magellan. His global exploits at the turn of the 15th century established a number of firsts. Magellan’s vision was to carry this same legacy into the future of the aerospace industry.

Magellan develops and produces complex and integrated products and services that bring value to our customers. We serve the civil aerospace and defence market as well as industrial power applications of aerospace engine technology.

OUR APPROACH

At Magellan we seek to balance our participation in each sector and within our customer base to manage market risk. We also invest in the early stages of new programs to ensure long-term participation.

Using the Magellan Operating System™ (MOS™) the corporation provides consistent and sound operating systems that ensure customer requirements are aligned with our capacity and capabilities.


MAGELLAN TIMELINE

Magellan - 1995

Young oilman N. Murray Edwards acquires Fleet Aerospace Corporation, Aeronca and Langley Aerospace.

Magellan - 1996

Talks with Siddeley Canada Inc. result in the addition of Orenda Aerospace in Mississauga Ontario and Middleton Aerospace in Massachusetts. Expansion into aeroengine manufacturing, repair and overhaul occurs.

Simultaneously, Magellan Aerospace Corporation is selected as the name of the growing company.

Magellan - 1997

Magellan acquires Bristol Aerospace from Rolls-Royce. Bristol brings a number of strengths in technology, materials knowledge and speciality manufacturing.

Magellan - 2008

Chicopee Manufacturing and Ambel Precision Manufacturing join the ranks of Magellan. Chicopee has proficiencies in high speed machining techniques while Ambel holds a strong market position in aerospace components.

Magellan - 1999

Ellanef Manufacturing is acquired. Abilities include the manufacturing and assembly of complex components and assemblies for space shuttles, commercial and defence aircrafts.

Magellan - 2002

Magellan takes possession of Haley Industries and Presto Casting. They are industry leaders in sand casting foundries for magnesium and aluminum products in the aerospace industry.

Magellan - 2003/2004

Magellan expands outside of North America with the acquisitions of Mayflower Aerospace and Moore’s in the United Kingdom. They group as Magellan Aerospace (U.K.) Limited and bring access to Airbus and other European aerostructures companies.

Magellan - 2007

Magellan enters a co-ownership arrangement with Quest Manufacturing and establishes a privately held processing facility in Belgaum, India. Activities in India help to open markets for Magellan and its major customers while providing value to emerging market countries.

Magellan - Today

Magellan Aerospace Corporation continues to work towards being the best, most reliable, most innovative value-added supplier. It exists as a publicly traded company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE:MAL).
